Pioneer Center

The Pioneer Centre is part of the Northampton Association of Youth Clubs (NAYC). Operating upon a foundation of Christian principles and offering service regardless of race, religion, or background, NAYC has over 50 years’ experience in providing people with opportunities to enjoy exciting and engaging outdoor and indoor activities as a means of helping them to develop their physical, mental, and spiritual capacities. NAYC has owned the Pioneer Centre since 1991, although there has been a youth centre of some kind on the site since 1939. The Pioneer Centre has a capacity to accommodate up to 300 people, and regularly

welcomes around 20,000 visitors a year. As an accredited outdoor activity centre, it is mainly used by school groups for residential trips. However, the centre also hosts youth groups, church groups and also conference groups and birthday parties and holiday clubs. The majority of the groups that come to the centre will be taking part in the outdoor sports and adventure activities on offer at the centre.

Some activities are:

  • Volunteers’ main role is to lead, instruct and coach the different activity sessions the centre offers in a fun, engaging and safe way.
  • Volunteers will work assisting and leading activities such as abseiling, climbing, fencing, high ropes course, team building exercises and archery. Other areas of work include checking the equipment and being aware of safety issues at all times.
  • Occasionally help out the House team (making beds, cleaning) occasionally and with general maintenance work around the site.
