Match and Mentor is a Project based in West Norfolk, that supports individuals with learning disabilities and additional support needs. The aim of the project isfor each person “to become the best version of themselves” by supporting themin various activities within the local community. Match and Mentor supportindividuals to:
- Access supported volunteering opportunities.
- Attend local social activities.
- Take part in training and learning opportunities.
- Learn basic living skills within their own home.
- Other activities of their choice.
Local volunteering activities that are carried out by the beneficiaries include outdoor allotment and gardening projects, conservation groups, older people’s homes, libraries, museums and community groups.
The role of the volunteer can vary considerably day-to-day as well as develop throughout the placement. Core activities for the volunteers include:
- Supporting beneficiaries to access a variety of community activities and promoting their independence.
- Volunteering alongside beneficiaries at their volunteer placements while motivating and engaging them.
- Supporting beneficiaries to learn new skills and tasks.
- Listening to and empathizing with our beneficiaries.
- Helping build the self-confidence and self-esteem of both you and ourbeneficiaries.
- Being a consistent and reliable source of support.
Volunteers are working directly with the beneficiaries on a daily basis and activities can take place outside (in all weathers), in community centres and in people’s homes.
